Just finished three hours of martial arts classes. One hour of jiu jitsu where we worked open half guard. One hour of open mat. And one hour of kickboxing where we worked high rear and lead roundhouses and a bunch of body combinations. I am spent.
One of my biggest motivations to lose weight is to be able to do certain movements with ease (or at all): muscle ups, handstand pushups, pistols, etc. With that in mind you could say today’s workout was highly motivating. Had to scale the muscle ups and pistols. Finished 4 rounds. Starting to get a kip with the toes to bar which is exciting - not sure why I find that so much harder than the pull-up kip.
* who am I kidding, the ultimate motivation for me is how good I’ll look in (and out of) clothes.
It’s been ages since I cleaned so I was happy to see them programmed for today.
For my 1-rep max I got up to 225lb which wasn’t pretty but it is a new PR so I’ll take it. I really need to involve my hips more: at 185lb I am practically muscle-cleaning it but at 225lb I’m struggling.
For elizabeth I used a medium band for the ring dips and finished the workout in 7:57. Got a little flack from the coach for muscle cleaning the 135lb but really… it’s not like the workout called for squat cleans, right?
Of course they’d program another overhead day right after a day of max thrusters and Fran… Managed 115lb on the overhead squat and completed the workout in 7:33 - though I used a 14lb ball for the double wall balls a I’d never done them before and the coach recommended we all scale it a bit.
It all started with my nephew’s birthday party last weekend: spaghetti for dinner, ice cream cake for dessert, dutch pancakes the morning after, then, because we were snowed in, pizza for dinner.
It didn’t stop there.
Monday was a friend’s birthday dinner at Nicli Antica Pizzeria.
Tuesday I flew to Las Vegas for work and had Burger KIng’s double croissanwich and french toast sticks.
In Las Vegas I worked 10-12 hours a day and could not resist the fridge full of free Coke. I did manage to skip the excessive lunches at Claimjumpers though.
Yesterday, my last day in Las Vegas, I had brunch at Hash House a Go Go. The menu said the Sage Fried Chicken Benedict was a Man vs Food favourite. So I ordered it. Biscuits, mashed potatoes, fried chicken, eggs, and all covered in gravy. And almost finished it.
Finally, last night was an Italian themed going away dinner party for Francesco and Carlos. Risotto, polenta, lamb, and copious amounts of cocktails.
